IN-QUEST (BE)

Douglas Verhoeven
IN-QUEST (BE)
Belgian "In-Quest" came to life more than a decade ago. Deriving from grind/death metal stream, successively shaped its own style and is now seen as a representative of a new wave of metal bands not limited by any of extreme genres. After their fourth full length album "Comatose Quandaries" the band is touring intensively over the whole Europe with such metal legends as Fear Factory, Nile, Behemoth or Cradle of Filth.
Since December 2006 In-Quest's guitarist, Douglas Verhoeven, is officially endorsing Mayones Guitars & Basses playing two customized Regius models. Being lefthanded, Douglas knows how hard it is to find a guitar for lefties that would suit his needs. But it seems that his search has eventually ended...
"The everlasting leftie quest for tone, playability & beauty has come to an end. I’ve finally found the instrument I’ve been dreaming of all this time." - says Douglas - "It's an undeniable, important leap forward to finally have a lefthand quality 7string out there that doesn’t only sound ultramean but also looks damn neat."
In-Quest's axeman chose for his two Regius guitars two active EMG pickups (81-7 for bridge and 707 for neck position) and unique features for each: Gothic White ash top, GraphTech piezo system, truss rod cover with musician's name and transparent vine red flamed maple top and big In-Quest logo on the ebony fretboard.
"I deliberately chose to make them extend one another – one being a basic 1 pot axe and the other being more allround with its added piezo blender. From fat & tight to Holdsworthesquely sweet with only one small flip of a switch." - explains his choice Douglas and proudly admits: "With a .72 in their lower B position, other guitars would scream in agony. But the Regius is more than glad to take these extreme stability demands – giving me the ultimate tight and allround tone that drills right through my body whilst staying in tune without giving a cramp. The neck pickup delivers that incredibly round and chunky shred tone I’ve always wanted. But overall, I think its general sensitiveness is the thing that surprises me most. Harmonics & overtones literally pop out like fireworks."
"I must admit; for me, looks CAN kill... I’ve always been ‘in-quest’ for a unique looking guitar with great binding and inlay work. As a leftie this simply had been out of the question all too often. Until now. The Regius truly is a piece of art, showing perfectly skilled pearl bindings and flawless transparent paintjob, in true respect of the beauty of wood. This exact idea made me opt as well for the ash top on my white Regius and its matte finish. Feeling the grain of the wood under your fingers truly is amazing… I’ve never felt so in touch with my instruments." - says about his two Regiuses.
"The fact that Mayones supports the left handed community by merging these skills in such a piece of art simply makes them the best guitar company in the world. Therefore, it feels like a huge honour to be chosen to promote their craftsmanship by playing the two first lefthand Regii on the planet. For me, the Regius model, the whole Mayones company and their policy feel like home so I’m determined to stay here…".
