Since its creation THE OLD DEAD TREE always stood apart in the current European metal scene thanks to its unique musical identity: a style which combines extreme metal & dark rock / pop with exceptional vocals, gliding from one style to another. Such variable music style requires reliable instruments to deliver wide range of tones, from smooth and delicate notes up to solid, metal punch. For that reason Vincent chose our Be Exotic model: "I was fully convinced that this instrument would be able to handle the different aspects of The Old Dead Tree's
When talking about The Old Dead Tree music press very often compare the band to such legends like Anathema or Opeth, though musicians place their style between pop music and death metal... No matter how strange it seems, there is no doubt that everyone could find some interesting lines in each of the three released albums. Extreme metal from one side and soft, clean parts on the other combined with the vocal lines surfing and diving through music styles - that's THE OLD DEAD TREE.
The group was formed in 1997 in Paris and with stable line-up two years later recorded their first mini-CD titled 'The Blossom', which gathered very warm reception, not only in France. In 2002 the band joins The Season of Mist label to release their first LP album 'The Nameless Disease'. The conception of this album was inspired and centered around dramatic death of band's drummer. This sort of 'catharsis' album was produced by Andy Classen (LEGION OF THE DAMNED, DEW SCENTED, DISBELIEF) and mastered by Goran Finberg (IN FLAMES, OPETH, DIMMU BORGIR) and was supported by the Europen tour with such acclaimed formations like Paradise Lost, Opeth and Katatonia. The second album - “The Perpetual Motion”, received raving reviews late Summer 2005 and was promoted with several high profile festivals, both as a support for Epica, Slayer, Antrax, Megadeth or Lacuna Coil and as a headliner.
Band's bass player, Vincent, in search for an instrument capable to fulfill his diverse requirements, decided to order one of our instruments: "My personal choice went on Mayones Be-4 bass." - says Vincent - "I must admit that I was first truly impressed by the stunning beauty of this instrument." His bass was delivered with standard Amazaque body and bolt-on Mahogany-Maple neck with Ebony fingerboard equipped with two Bartolini Soapbar pickups and Aguilar electronics. "As of the first try, I was feeling very comfortable in playing this bass... even better than on my previous one. Of course, I also felt very satisfied with the various tones of the Be-4 : I was fully convinced that this instrument would be able to handle the different aspects of The Old Dead Tree's music. That's why I decided to use it immediatly both in the studio and on stage!"
Currently The Old Dead Tree has finished recording and mixing of their third release called 'The Water Fields'. This title is based upon an imaginary place where one finds refuge from pain and everyday doubts. "This is a concept album about avoidance, kidding oneself, and the urge we have to hide from reality and to remain passive when we are on tenterhooks..." says Manuel Munoz, band's vocalist and guitarist. "The band went further again, reaching a new stage in terms of song writing and maturity. This album is much heavier and darker, but also more diverse and full of sheer emotion! Even the production of Andy Classen outdoes the job on our previous material…"
